Throughout the 2019 college football season, the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl Game Football Committee will select players from each partner conference as the Big Ten and Pac-12 Player of the Week.

For their outstanding performances in week 1, Michigan State defensive end Kenny Willekes and Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon were selected by the 15-person committee.

Big Ten Player of the Week
Kenny Willekes, Michigan State
Sr., DE, Rockford, Mich.

  • Tallied seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown
  • Helped Michigan State hold Tulsa to a school-record minus-73 yards rushing in a 28-7 win
  • Named Big Ten and Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week
  • This is Willekes’ first Rose Bowl Game Player of the Week honor

Pac-12 Player of the Week
Anthony Gordon, Washington State
R-Sr., QB, Pacifica, Calif.

  • Completed 29-of-35 passes for 420 yards and five touchdowns in a 58-7 win over New Mexico State
  • Completed his first 15 passes of the game and led nine scoring drives in nine possessions, including six touchdowns
  • Tied the Washington State record for touchdown passes in a Cougar starting debut
  • This is Gordon’s first Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week honor
