AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION
As the crossroads of homelessness and the need for affordable housing you will find The AIDS Healthcare Foundation making a real difference to battle these twin crises. The float’s classic trip through L. Frank Baum’s Land of Oz is a fitting allegory to how the AHF is giving people in need their own place to call home. The AHF’s Healthy Housing Foundation has restored and repopulated single-room-occupancy (SRO) hotels and motels, transforming them into more 1,400 rooms (and counting) for extremely low-income and homeless individuals in the Greater Los Angeles area alone. With more than 69,000 people yet to turn the corner on homelessness in Los Angeles County, there is more work to be done. But the AHF is continuing their work to reduce these numbers. Because there really is no place like home.

DOWNEY ROSE FLOAT ASSOCIATION
If you want to “Bee Inspired” by some of the most important members of our food supply, look no further than Downey Rose Float Association’s depiction of this colony of honeybees. The importance of these little buzzers cannot be understated. They work tirelessly to pollinate agricultural crops around the world, and in doing so they stabilize our food supply. The more than 18,000 flowers on this self-built float depict a group of honeybees foraging nectar and pollen from a wildflower garden of roses, orchids and tulips. Thanks to their worldwide numbers stabilizing, bees just like the ones on the Downey float have turned a corner into thriving communities. They can create beautiful, honeycomb arches amongst purple, catmint flowers. They can buzz through strawberry vines and pollinate their way to at least a third of the human food supply. They can share cascades of white phalaenopsis orchids and blooming waterlilies that make up the float’s tranquil pond. And they can flap their wings just like the bees on this floral masterpiece. The Downey Rose Float association is proud to devote this year’s float to the worldwide education of honeybee preservation. And possibly inspire people to become backyard beekeepers, themselves.

SIERRA MADRE ROSE FLOAT ASSOCIATION
The self-built float of the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association is a whimsical portrayal of a bear family’s exciting day at the park -- and it looks like while the cubs are getting into some mischief, it’s Papa’s Turn to get into a little mischief of his own. Two of his cubs watch from a nearby California oak tree as their Papa Bear careens his scooter past them into a flutter of scattering birds. Meanwhile, the little bears’ brother gets possibly a little too curious with a busy, buzzy beehive. New tomorrows and the joy of the outdoors are brought to life on this charming float brimming with palm bark, black caraway, sunflowers, gladiolas, birds of paradise, and a spectacular floral stream of blue and white hydrangeas. Papa Bear’s scooter is covered in silver leaf, while nine rose arrangements hang from the trees, which have been spectacularly hand carved. Don’t forget to look for the owl and squirrel hiding in the second tree, as they are, perhaps, a bit wary of getting in this ursine family’s way.

For their Rose Parade entry, their Stoodios were inspired to Buddy with Nouns, a generative NFT project auctioning one NFT avatar based on people, places, or things every day. Their proceeds fund the NFT artists for further artistic projects. This unique float is truly as original as the pixelated NFTs it highlights. Mr. Blue is made of blue statice, poppy seeds and multiple colors of carnations, meanwhile Mr. Green sports tea leaves, split peas, parsley flakes, and ground rice. Mr. Orange represents quite nicely, himself, with lentils, carnations, lettuce seeds, and tea leaves. The float rounds out its walls and decks with yellow mums, silverleaf, tulips, amaryllis plants, sunflowers, delphinium and plenty of hot pink roses. Don’t miss the float’s walkers in custom built costumes in a retro 8-bit aesthetic.
