Series: The series is tied 4-4; teams first met in the 1923 Rose Bowl Game; USC won 14-3.

The Match-Up
Penn State and USC meet for the ninth time in history; the last time was on August 27, 2000, in the Kickoff Classic XVIII (East Rutherford, N.J.) when the Trojans defeated the Nittany Lions, 29-5. Penn State is bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive time since 2006; USC will be making its eighth consecutive bowl appearance and NCAA record seventh consecutive BCS game.

This will be the second time these teams have faced each other in the Rose Bowl Game (last time in the 1923 game). The 1923 game was also the first played at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Penn State finished the regular season 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten Conference; USC also finished the regular season 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the Pac-10 Conference.

Penn State head coach Joe Paterno will be making his second appearance in the Rose Bowl Game.

The Rankings
Penn State enters the game ranked No. 8 in the BCS, No. 6 in the Harris Interactive and No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches Polls. The Nittany Lions are co-champions of the Big Ten Conference (sharing the title with Ohio State). USC enters the game ranked No. 5 in the BCS, No. 5 in the Harris Interactive and tied for No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll (tied with Alabama). The Trojans are the champions of the Pac-10 Conference.

Penn State will wear its white jerseys and use the west bench on game day. USC will wear its dark jerseys and use the east bench on game day.

The Sponsorship
Citi is in its sixth year as presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl Game.

Team Payout
The conferences participating in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi will receive $18 million.

Network Television
ABC will televise the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi. Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit will call the action from the booth, while Lisa Salters will serve as the sideline reporter.

Radio
ESPN Radio will broadcast the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi nationally with Dave Barnett and Rod Gilmore to call the action from the booth and Erin Andrews on the sidelines.

Ticket Allotment
Per the tri-party agreement with the Big Ten and Pac-10 Conferences, the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi is a contractual sell-out. The participating teams and conferences have been allotted a total of 64,500 tickets.
